Sorry,

I meant to address Werner, not Inge. :-)

Leif and Inge,

I'll have to disagree with Inge on one aspect; very few connectors these days still use BeCu. It is very expensive and difficult to work with. The contact alloy is more likely a CuNiSn, or similar. LCP is very common in small connectors and valued for its high temperature characteristics and resistance to warpage in small geometries. It is a bit temperamental if there are uneven wall thicknesses.

Leif, if you can tell me the connector mfr and part number I might be able to do some investigation for you and give you hints

Now Dave, you made me curious. I understand the neutron irradiation that

lifted Uranium to another isotop level, but HOW did they determine that they

had a new element? I thought that was what you meant with sampling.

TechNet is such a cool tool - ask a question and get an answer!

Thanks Karen!

Hi Inge - the simplest explanation is that the bomb went boom, a

tremendous amount of energy events at the atomic level began to occur and

the U238 bomb jacket was subjected to transformation by neutron capture.

Any explanation beyond that means I have to open up a few text books and

do some reading! My curiosity is for the folks on the airplane conducting

the air sampling - just what were the health effects of that exposure!

Re: [TN] NTC - Friday Trivia Question

I try to figure out by thinking only, but it's Friday, and I've visited a

2

hs synt concert with Jean.Michel Jarre, and am exhausted. Jarre uses lots

of

lasers in his shows. Laser..hm...photons... exitation...gamma

radiation....hydrogen bomb..hmm...Einsteinium must have higher energy

than

Uranium when electrons fall back to origin place in the orbit after a

high

energetic bombardment......so they must have used ionized Uranium that was

bombarded with gamma that lifted electrons to higher orbit , then

accelerated these ions through a magnetic field and registered a energy

count higher than what had been seen before...I give up. Dave, you got to

tell us. I make things more complicated than what's needed. I'm sure

you'll

tell us about a simpler way. Hmm...I don't remember the deterioration of

Einsteinium...guess it starts fall apart very rapidly. Does it have

anything

to do with Geiger-Muller detecting? Hmmmmmmmmm...now wait a little. I'm a

stupid. They must simply have decided the density! But could they...the

new

element had short life..OK...I come no closer..

May someone else crack the nut. Tomorrow I'll have a look in my old books

of

Physics..
