Dave,you asked for the sampling method. Well, in my opinion you need use a 
'balance' that can react on single atoms. Sounds as some kind of mass 
spectrometer. You have to count less than picograms...hm....femtograms. 
Question is how to decide the correct weight. I'll thinh it over.
