On a related note, I recently caught the tail end of an NPR book review on
the life of Sir Joseph Priestly.
Besides being the recognized identifier of oxygen as an elemental gas, Sir
Priestley had befriended Benjamin
Franklin, and had a similar eccentric mindset. I've added it to my
booklist.
