Genny,

I just had to change a nylon fitting because it's outgassing properties
were well above space requirements. Turned out that the type of Nylon
had a total mass loss (TML) level of 2.5%, almost 50% of which would be
water. Granted this is a space application, but it demonstrates how some
materials may perform in 0 G. Outgassing may not hurt my fitting, but
the vapors it releases may damage neighboring parts.

I can think that the connector would popcorn during soldering similarly
to plastic components.

We have been told that a surface mount nylon connector we use is
moisture sensitive, and should be treated as equivalent to level 5a.
This is the highest level we have ever seen on any component we have
used of any type.  I didn't think that a connector could be moisture
sensitive.  Not heat tolerant, yes - we have melted a few - but moisture
sensitive?  
What kind of damage can happen to a nylon connector from too much
moisture absorption?
