I'm researching how to (or whether I even have to) get to this level of detail on marking PCBs and PCBAs intended to be RoHS compliant.

For the sake of discussion, let's say:

(1) I've verified that all components on the BOM are verified to be Pb-free.

(2) I've specified on the PCB drawing some manner of Pb-free surface finish on an IPC-4101/24 Tg 170 oC minimum FR-4.

(3) I've specified on the PCBA drawing that I want a RoHS compliant finished assembly.

(4) I've specified IPC-6012 Class 2.

Given that the RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament does not require any markings except at the component level, but simply stating "RoHS compliant" may not be enough,

(5) How many of you are required by your companies to mark the bare PCB and the assembled PCBA with J-STD-609 markings, and

(6) What do your standard J-STD-609 PCB and PCBA drawing notes look like, since there seem to be no such standard notes published yet

(7) Or, if I am mistaken, can anyone kindly direct me to a location for published standard notes?

Give me a solution that doesn't add cost to the assembly, but at the same time satisfies those who are bothered by Pb, please.

TIA and Best Regards,
