Hi Roger - there are three elements that have been shown to form whiskers:
cadmium, zinc and tin. Tin is the most famous but there are numerous cases
of both zinc and cadmium whiskers too. Check out the NASA Goddard whisker
website for examples of each.

Dave,
I've been around plating a lot, especially zinc and I never heard of zinc
whisker formation. Are you sure you don't mean tin whisker
formation?
If you really do mean zinc please direct me to some information about it.
It's never too late in life to learn something new.
