A little late for this thread, but outgassing plasticizers from PVC can
attack other plastics.

As an example, the insulating handles on a pair of wire nippers recently
dissolved large pits in the transparent face of a stop-watch, in one of my
tool kits. The points of near-contact retain their newly acquired flow
characteristic. Tacky.

The nippers are US-origin Xuron trade mark, so please don't start flaming
off-shore sources. The insulation on the handles is splitting, without any
regular use.
