FYI about defoamers:

Cannot fathom using "soft soap", which would form insoluble compounds with water hardness, thus be non-rinsing, when rinsing these devices we try so hard to clean up.

Whereas polyglycols have the highly desirable property of being insoluble at higher temperatures, and soluble at lower temperatures, thus allowing them to be rinsed in cold water.

The purpose of an anti-foam is to change the physical conditions of the water in
the tank, especially the surface tension. Many anti-foam products are based on
mixtures of soft soap and octylic alcohol. These are perfectly acceptable for
electronics applications. On the other hand, those based on silicones should be
viewed with the utmost caution.
