Dave,

We actually put in a piece of lead. The peak for lead is slightly offset from where we find the peak.

Doctors Turbini and Koo came by with a couple of suggestions:

Turbini - some Bi compounds used as catalysts for polymerization

Koo - Bi amine halides used as flame retardants

Great when I have staff like this! Should have gone to them first before TechNet, but at least we all learn this way. :)

Hi Bev - hey, Bismuth and Lead shell lines overlap each other in the 0-10kV range but are distinctly separate in the 10-20kV range. Which range did you use? Could you have a case of mistaken identity?

[TN] Weird one - bismuth in overmold

TechNetters,

In checking a component for one thing or another we found via SEM/EDX

particles of bismuth in the overmold. Smaller amounts of bromine were

also found in the same spots but the largest signal by far was due to

Bi. I have never seen or heard of such a thing before. Can anyone shed

any light on this before I go to the component vendor?
