Get the BGA sockets made by E-tool in Switzerland. Get the type that uses the crowned pins, not the coil springs. The coil spring contacts do not work very well, and with the crowned pins you can test the BGA after the component is removed, and the old solder removed, but prior to re-balling. You can also test BGAs as received with balls attached with the crowned pins. You can then use the "golden unit" CCA as a test verification tool on the removed parts, or use it as a screening tool on new BGAs coming in the door prior to assembly.

 Subject: [TN] BGA testing sockets

 Hello Technetters,

I am in a situation where I need to verify if a pulled PBGA is functional before it is reballed and re-mounted to a circuit board.  The PBGAs are 31mm x 31mm with 1.00 and 1.27mm ball spacing.

If anyone has experience with BGA (or LGA) test sockets along with a company they would like to recommend it would be greatly appreciated.

 Thank you in advance,

 David Tremmel
