I believe Keith is on the right track. I've always considered "fisheye"
defects in coating to have a dimpled appearance. Sort of like if you threw a
rock into water and froze the picture just as the first ripple is made. It
sort of pulls away from the middle and builds up a little bit around the
edge.

This is a little to one side of my present comfort zone, but I think I
recall:

The term fisheye is used to differentiate a surface bubble (with or without
an actual covering film) from blistering or vessication which would be at
coating/PCB interface.
Fisheye would more likely be an application defect, vessication would be an
in-service defect.
Blistering could be either depending on the timing.

I have been putting together some inspection standards for a new workshop in
Germany. I have found a number of references to "Fish Eyes" but never seen
an example. It's a common term but seems to be elusive in terms of actual
examples.

Would the images at the following link be considered "Fish Eyes" by users or
are we looking for more subtle examples like two bubbles between IC leads??
