Good morning, we are receiving laser marked 2D barcode from 2 suppliers
in high volume, no issues. We tried inkjet. Hard to read consistently,
can contaminate solderable surfaces, high maintenance if used in high
volume.

Sorry to disappoint you Brian, but laser marking pcbs in the fab process
is not a common feature anywhere. What is now possible is to ink jet
print a unique barcode to every board, and this is indeed becoming a
mature process with more and more fabricators able to provide as an
additional service.

How common is it to have the PCB supplier etch a unique 2-D barcode on
the PCB using a laser? We seem to have trouble finding PCB suppliers
with this capability. I would think this is a very mature process and
quite common.
