Tell them that APEX attendance is absolutely necessary for you to help your company to stay on top of NEW developments, processes, and technologies within the industry, thus not allowing your competition to preclude your company's natural expansion into future markets. And tell them that these NEW developments, processes, and technologies are not being taught yet at your local university or tech school, and by the time they are they will be obsolete and replaced by some other advancement. So they should either play the game or go sit on the porch with the other small lap dogs. You may be able to open up some of the last two or three APEX Proceedings and possibly show them some examples that pertain to your company, or affect your company. I think some examples would be papers on mixed alloy processing (soldering SAC305 BGA balls with Sn63 paste and vice versa) as well as faster oxidation of RoHS-compliant Sn99 component finishes that affect your DPMO as you process more and more older RoHS-compliant parts, and what some companies are doing to overcome these issues such as automated tinning, limits on Sn99 part shelf life, etc., etc.
Don't say anything about today's high temperature forecast for Las Vegas, 71 deg. F. or that somebody that lives in your part of the world deserves to go someplace warm as often as possible, even though that is undeniably true.

Subject: [TN] Apex Expo

I am trying, for the 1st time, to convince my co. to send me.  I have never been.  I feel there is value in going but it is difficult to quantify.
There is resistance, primarily to the travel costs. There has to be some clear benefit to going there, over top of local learning opportunities, and I am being encouraged to look for classes at the local university and tech schools to 'better myself', rather than looking to be sent to Vegas.
Any help you can give me to quantify the benefits of Apex?Genny
