The residues of many No-Cleans weren't meant to look like a clean board only that the residue is safe, passes all the SIR tests.
Safe doesn't mean they won't interfere with electrical test when using pogo-type test or flying probe. From an electrical point the No-Clean residue has been rated as safe to leave on. The clear outer layer seals in any activators not consumed by the reflow or wave process. If the test method uses a diagnostic test plug or visual test like for testing displays or graphic cards or displays then the No-Clean residue may be acceptable. Then of course there is the perception by the customer that you may have to abide by.
There are many No-Clean wave solder fluxes and SMT solder pastes that are excellent and very little visable flux residue.

It is a high temperature solder wire, control the temperature and time
to ensure cleaner flux residue.

I know some think my current mindset is in a state of flux, but why are
you trying to clean a no clean?

Subject: [TN] UMICORE PASTE
Hi techies:
Does anybody from here had an experience on UMICORE solder paste?
I am using 95/5Sn from UMICORE and they claim it as no clean flux.
However
residues are teribble.
I have problem on removing these residues. The flux residue is dark some
sort of it is burned or charred. And really difficult to remove during
flux
cleaning using Ionox 1332?
I encountered lots of wirebond non-sticks.
Is this normal to UMICORE/Microbond pastes?
Hope to hear from all of you.
regards
Jon
