Subject: Re: [TN] Alumina Substrate

Hi Jeff!

Are you asking for metallized alumina substrates? If so, what kind of metal and what resolution? Are through-vias required? How many dielectric layers? Resistors/precision?

If you just want bare alumina 5 mils thick with no metallization, then we've gotten them from P/M Industries. They will provide them with through holes, but no metal.

Some companies provide Direct Bond Copper services. Haven't used them.

For wirebondability, normally thick film Au is used. This can be chemically etched to relatively high precision (<2mil line x space). But solderable metallization compatible with the Au is not great at either soldering or resolution.

We have metallized such substrates in the past. You really need to know what you're doing to handle 5mil thick material and need to be prepared for a bunch of loss due to fracture.

Subject: [TN] Alumina Substrate

To All,

I have been ask to identify a source for some small high frequency circuits on 5 mil thick Alumina substrate. Can anyone recommend a source in the US (absolute requirement)?

TIA,
