Moreover, after the 1-2 first PCBs are tested, then most if not all
Flying Probe Tester are using a "signature" system (discharge/RF/..) to
compare a supposed good first boards with the other "signatures"... made
with one finger probe onto 1 equipotential.. and done!

This is not necessarily true.
We use Itochu FPTs with UGS Tecnomatix software and the program is
written from the CAD data.
This technique does NOT use a 'golden' board.
We will typically produce a debugged FPT program from CAD data within
16hrs for something similar to a PC motherboard.
Producing a fully released FPT program would take longer. We are only
looking for manufacturing defects.

Subject: [TN] IPC-6012 Class 3 - Electrical Test Requirement

Dear Technetters,

I am seeking your advice regarding Electrical Test requirement for a
Class 3 PCB.

Would it be acceptable to use a Flying probe tester or not?

For me, Flying Probe Testers do NOT perform a full proof ET as it does
not test each equipotential against all the other equipotentials.. but
only the adjacent ones..
Moreover, after the 1-2 first PCBs are tested, then most if not all
Flying Probe Tester are using a "signature" system (discharge/RF/..) to
compare a supposed good first boards with the other "signatures"... made
with one finger probe onto 1 equipotential.. and done!

More and more PCB manufacturers do not even have a bed of nail tester
anymore..

And even if they do have it, they tend not to use Flying Probe Tester
for small / medium batch regardless of the Class!

Thank you for your help/advice

Meilleures salutations
Very Best Regards
Roland
