When I was a kid I had this electroplating system that was a close
approximation to the plating pens. Several bottles of different plating
solutions, a plastic housing with batteries that had a foam applicator
and a clip lead. You would clip the lead to the part you wanted to plate
and paint the plating on. And it worked pretty well!
