David,
That is a pretty broad question. For the most part, the high energy gamma
radiation degrades polymers by chain scission, or cutting up the polymer
chains. NASA has a fair amount of data. Try this link which is a quick
Google Search. It shows some promising leads.

Subject
[TN] Gamma Radiation Effects on Assemblies?

DC Members:

I have designed a flex assembly that will be subject to gamma
radiation (25-50 kGy) for sterilization purposes. We need to know
the effects of this radiation on the materials; Active & passive
comps, polyimid flex, solder & joints, etc...

Can anyone point me in the right direction where I might begin to
find this information? Is there an overall document and
specification? Would I need to contact the manufacturer of each P/N
and request this information. I have done flight boards in which
each component had to be rad-hard, is this a similar situation?

Thanks in advance!
