Thanks for that insight. So I believe the most common component finishes
for lead free are NiPdAu and matte Sn. Is that right?

This is true with some Ni Pd Au systems as has been reported to me by
some
military end customers. However not all systems are incompatible with
SnPb. You should check with your fabricators chemical supplier for
details
on their compatibility.

Wetting and intermetallic strength. My impression is that Palladium
needs
an elevated temperature to solder well as it works fine at leadfree
temperatures but not SnPb.
This was also a big issue with Pd plated passives some years ago but I
don't know if it's directly comparable.
