Most people have never used the lemon law for one vehicle, but I've now
lemon lawed two here in Florida. The first was a 2001 Dodge Dakota.
The problems it developed should have been easily fixed, but the
incompetence of the dealer was the real problem. Over all the tries to
fix it, they actually managed to ruin the paint, so I pulled the plug.
That particular Dodge dealer went belly up just last week.

The other was a 2005 Lexus. Yes, you'd be amazed at how many of them
get returned. We bought it to replace a wonderful '97 Lexus and it was
the worst car we've ever owned. They replaced it with a new ES350 and
it's been a dream.

My point is, you can get good ones and bad ones no matter what the make.

Regarding the post about Honda overdesigning, then derating their
engines, it's nothing new. Henry did exactly that with the Model A back
in the late 20's. It's estimated that several hundred thousand of them
still survive today. I own a '29 and we did a 200 mile tour this
weekend. I'm still recovering. When people look at it, or our '56
T-bird and wistfully say "They don't build 'em like that anymore," my
response is "Thank God!" No matter what we drive today, domestic or
foreign, they're so far ahead of where they were even 20 years ago it's
not funny.

Y'all have a great Thanksgiving.

My reluctant two bits as well...

Of course, the unions and management need to share in the blame, but so
does the American consumer for not DEMANDING the US automakers
manufacture something with halfway decent mileage. Just because some
car manufacturer makes it, does not mean that I have to buy it! I think
they/we need to come to some sense of reality! It is unfortunate that
the door has to slam in our collective faces before we 'see' it,
however.

I am not promoting that EVERYTHING be a hyper-mileage vehicle. Make a
spectrum of vehicles to support those that MUST have a pick-up truck for
business or personal needs, and a small, more fuel efficient, safe,
vehicle for those that would like that.

By example, my 94 Chev Lumina APV [mini-van] has almost 205K miles on
it. It has had CV joints & rack and pinion replaced 2X [I believe the
second R&P was due to less than quality replacement parts the first
time], with normal brakes, tires, and filters.

It gets me places in the Winter that the little 03 Honda Civic Hybrid
[at 125K miles] would never dare to - but at ~ 1/2 the mileage....

I believe that 'lemons' come in all brand names... U.S. and not.

I didn't want to get into this either, but I'm sick of the bashing.
Maybe it's time that someone spoke up for Detroit. (But not the CEO
a-holes).

I have a '97 Ford F150 with 228,000 miles on it.

I taught my 17 year old son to drive in it in 1999. One day after I let
him take it out for a spin, I heard the weirdest moan coming from the
rear axle. The mechanic said it looked like the truck had been driven
through deep water. When I asked my son about it, the look on his face
was priceless.

The truck has had the rear end replaced. One serpentine belt. 2 sets
of plugs and plug wires, a starter and an alternator.

It ain't all bad.

And I drive this Detroit iron:

I do not normally resond to something like this but everybody has a
different view point, my Toyota is just 2 years old, has 51,000 miles
on it and has only needed tires and front brakes.

My last Chevy had three A/C low pressure valves, the wires fall off the
A/C controls, the seat belt light stick on, the water pump replaced,
and the clutch for the fan freeze solid (after a trip to the dealer
where the Service manager took time form his busy schedule repairing
cars to give me a letter from Chevy saying that the cycling I was
observing was normal, 20

miles later it froze solid and I limped back to the dealer) by this
mileage.
I get 26-29 miles to the gallon versus 16-18 before with Chevy, and that
gas mileage is on a engine with 269 HP in a Toyota and it is fun to
drive .

My previous car a Ford had a ignition module issue that was not
admittted.
The engine would die and could not be started, replacing the module
always solved the issue. I had sent Ford a letter asking the mean time
between

failure so I could plan ahead and replace the next module and got back a

letter that told me my car was out of warranty. Only years later did
they disclose that they knew that they had a problem!

Guess what sorry Detriot, I do not plan to go back to Detriot iron!!!!!!
