Hi chlorine hunters
Regarding opto failures we have had such problems earlier when we had smd optos on the underside of the board and were wave soldered. The CTR of some of the devices used to drop drastically and would have to be replaced .We use optos in several k /pm
It was later found that optos are not meant to be placed in such a way that requires them to be wave soldered .........the basic device construction forbids that method
Our solution was simpler:we re-laid the boards to have optos on the reflow side wherever possible and used 'selective soldering' using masking plates made of FR4 GE sheets wherever relayout was not feasible
our problem was solved
Yes ,my answer would not solve the 'chlorine in plastic ' problem but would give the required solution .perhaps!

With best regards
