Subject: RE: [TN] SOLDERING BERYLLIUM COPPER

To clarify, we are purchasing this contact for use on a Mac Panel
connector and the contact is designed to be crimp. No where does the
datasheet indicate you can solder. Engineering is trying to solder since
the wire gage does not match the contact size. It is on a test set.
Thanks, Jon

The Copper is just 'doped' with Be, still solderable. We have soldered
to
BeCu without any problems. The thing is you must polish or burnish the
metal
and solder asap. Barrier layer, well it depends..(Dough TM). Remember
that
billions of solder joints have survived for a century in old radios etc.

They hardly knew what a barrier was at that time. Soldering to Nickel is
not
my favorite. IF you must declare a present barrier, avoid bright hard
Nickel. Matte sulfamate is better.

Subject: [TN] SOLDERING BERYLLIUM COPPER

Is there any issue with soldering a crimp style contact that is
beryllium copper with gold finish? I am used to having nickel barrier
over the base material. Internet search does find you can but it
indicates it is not a strong connection. Thanks, Jon
