Oh yes I find the copper is plastically deformed and it appears that is
happening here. Look for a thinning right at the break site. With fast
onset catastrophic type failures thinning is frequently observed. Copper
thinning is s very subtle condition however and is usually over looked.

You know there is a lot more to be said about barrel cracks, crack
propagation, roots causes etc. and not enough time to do so in this
forum. I just try to hit the major points.

Inward bowing of the barrel walls certainly occurs. However, in order to
cause cracks like these, the copper would have to plastically deform and
stay bowed. I did not see this.
