Larry,
thanks for your contribution. Sorry enough, the coolant touches the lamp, because it's the lamp that has to be cooled.

Have you considered an automotive anti-freeze?
As long as only the heat sink and and not the lamp is touched then thier addittives may be benificial.

Life is contradictable. Some microorganisms start multiplying instead in UV. I UV radiated a silver plate dipped in ethylen glycos, and after some hours, you could see greyish veils on the silver surface: kind of fungi, size about one to several micrometers. They were there somewhere already before the test, of course. A university here has a number of doctorands who study microorganic growth caused by enhanced condition which comes from IR-radiated ethylene glycos, which break down to kind of organic compounds on which the few microorganisms feast, and become millions in short time. Silver is often used as anti-bacteria stuff, but life can tunnel through even that in some cases. Unbelievable. If someone is curious, I can send a photo on my unwanted babies to Steve.

Not exactly the same application but we kill life with UV light in our DI
      water system.

We seem to get Thermofil Filamentous Fungi in our coolant for a heat
exchanger that takes care of the dissipated heat from a flash lamp. Ethylene
Glycos + DI is used. It's said that there is antibiotic anti-freeze stuff to
buy somewhere. Someone who I can share this problem with?
