Life is contradictable. Some microorganisms start multiplying instead in UV.
I UV radiated a silver plate dipped in ethylen glycos, and after some hours,
you could see greyish veils on the silver surface: kind of fungi, size about
one to several micrometers. They were there somewhere already before the
test, of course. A university here has a number of doctorands who study
microorganic growth caused by enhanced condition which comes from
IR-radiated ethylene glycos, which break down to kind of organic compounds
on which the few microorganisms feast, and become millions in short time.
Silver is often used as anti-bacteria stuff, but life can tunnel through
even that in some cases. Unbelievable. If someone is curious, I can send a
photo on my unwanted babies to Steve.
Inge
