Dear All,

We are a high reliability multilayer mfr. We have been doing Plasma desmear for the multilayer boards since last 1 year. We were getting a good results and was meeting the stringent acceptance criteria of 3 times thermal stress. Earlier we were doing 3-4 panels per load and our parameters, gas flow, cycle duration etc were set for this. Now our requirments have gone up and since our machine is capable of taking 12 panels per load, we are doing 10-12 boards per load with the same parameters. But we finding some defects of inner layer separation after 3 thermal stress cycles which we suspect to be linked to the plasma cycle. Unfortunately we are unable to reduce the number of panels / load due to the delivery / machine availability constraint. But we felt that since the machine is designed for 12 panels we should be able to plan accordingly with the desired results.

We would like to have some inputs whether in a plasma desmear system, is there a need for the parameters to be adjusted for an increased load condition like what we are facing now. From 3-4 panels to 12 panels / load. The load is High Tg FR4 180 Tg Nelco 4000-6. We follow the plasma desmear with a permanganate cycle also before electroless.

Rgds

Pradeep
