I am looking to rule out the possibility that the crack is further then the
tin plating. I am pulling parts off the reel that have what appears to be a
crack in the terminal. We are also seeing a large number of assemblies with
severed leads after the wave process. The supplier is telling me that it is
the plating that is cracked not the lead. I hope that after dyeing, the lead
can be broken off and the penetration of dye measured. If it penetrates the
copper then I know the crack is deeper then the tin plating.

Thank you,

Ted

Once you have done your dye penetrant what means/technique will you use
to determine how far and what direction the suspected crack propagated.?
