First of all, we'd better start a company called Human-to-Human
Intelligence Incorporated. It's more important with people speaking to each
other intelligently, than machines chatting with each others.
Still, the 'conversating' machines just follow what they are programmed to
do. A couple of years ago, a young scientist demonstrated self-learning mini
robots. A number of small cars, about 5 inches long, think they were some
20 cars, were just activated on the floor, placed randomly. One car was
programmed to do a job, the others had no orders. At first all cars, except
the programmed one, ran about without meaning, but when an individual came
close to the programmed car, the later sent some information to the
close-coming one. What happened next was that the 2'nd car transferred data
to a brother car, which one sent to his brother, etcetera, until all cars
knew what to do. Suddenly, all cars set off to do the job, and they lined up
in a perfect row (!!) and moved one by one for the destination. Now, the
scientists had placed obstacles on the route, which the programmed car no 1
didn't know about, nor the rest. The first car hit the obstacle, stopped and
told the other 19 cars that there was an obstacle. All 20 cars stopped
simultaneously. Then, believe it or not, one car after the other tried
various ways to pass the hinder, one found a solution, told the others, and
the whole caravan passed the hinder. Spoky! No man was nearby, all was
filmed automatically until the car batteries ran out. Not real AI, but a
good bit on the way,
Inge

Here's another link to a company at my old Navy base; NAS Moffett Field.
The company is called Machine-to-Machine Intellingence Incorporated.
Read carefully how they explain what they do:
