Hi TechNeters,

I've been reading you since a while, but it's the first time I'm posting
something here. Hope it can give me some help!

We are about to introduce press-fit connectors with compliant pins on a new
product and have done tests to qualify the whole process since it's completely
new to us.

After lab test (Cross-section with SEM analysis), we found out some pits and
cracks on the nickel layer down to copper surface. This doesn't sound good
since copper will be directly exposed to air and humidity, thus leading to long
term failure I guess because of corrosion.

We have followed every manufacturer's recommendations (insertion force using
a servo press, ENIG thickness, PTH size, etc.). I'm out of solutions and wonder
if this can be fixed or if it's normal for press-fit.

If anyone out here has experience with press-fit and want to share information
with me, it would be more than appreciated! And if needed, I can supplier more
information and also lab results.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Maxime Augustin, ing. jr.
