I tried the wash and bake, no success. I tried it on two different P/N's.
FYI - we don't hand solder the varistor, just the through hole connector next to it.
We are experiencing a 10 to 20% fallout at test.
Anything else we can try?
Re-soldering 1 component doesn't take long, so will they just have to live with it for now?
Thanks,
John

Hi John,
mobile telephone antenna circuit? No wonder it doesn't work. It's a
extremly low capacitance antenna to 'ground', sometimes less than 2pF. And a
demand for low parasitic currents. You are probably right when you point at
flux residues. This component should
1. not be hand soldered
2. be maximum cleaned

Subject: [TN] Ceramic Varistor Test Failures
Dear All,
We have been seeing an increase in test failures of the ceramic varistor
(AVX P/N VC060314A300) when these components are near a connector that we
hand solder.
I suspect it is contamination from the flux used for hand solder. We fix
the test failure by resoldering the varistor, and all is well at retest.
We do a water wash after hand solder, but still see a 20% to 40% test
failure rate. Has anyone experienced this before? Waht was done to fix the
problem?
Thanks in advance for the help.
