Hi Linda!

Having removed numerous press-fit connectors over the years due to one
reason or another, I can tell you it isn't all that fun. It's funny you
posted this now, because I have to remove and replace Molex 144-pin, 2mm
pitch, press fit connector
http://www.molex.com/pdm_docs/sd/736440000_sd.pdf because one pin got
folded beneath the connector when it was pressed in. Maybe you jinxed
me.... ;^)

First consideration; is it a compliant pin, or a displacement pin that's
in the board? Myself, if it was a displacement pin connector I would be
hesitant about removing and replacing it. But if it's a compliant pin
press-fit, most connector OEM's say the board can withstand up to
5-insertions if the footprint is per their spec. Not that I would ever
do that many, usually twice is all that I've ever done. Then it's just
patience, because from my experience it has to be done pin-by-pin.

My tools usually are a good sturdy pair of fine point needle-nose pliers
with serrated jaws to grip each pin, a nail set to push each pin up from
the bottom, and a good set of clippers to sometimes "de-construct" the
plastic bodies so that I can get to the pins, such as with ERNI right
angle press fit connectors. It goes without saying that usually the
connector that you have to remove is history.

Can any one share information or point me in the right direction for
finding a procedure or equipment for removing Press Fit Connectors?

Thanks in advance for your support.
