Mike,

How were the PCBs held onto the carriers, in order to allow for the massive CTE mismatch between the carriers and the Al?

Thanks,

Ioan

At a prior company we had aluminum pcbs that the Al was required to be
chem filmed, so we couldn't panelize and cut them out without going back
with Iridite to touch them up. We ran them as single in an SMT carrier.
Volume was only about 500 per month.

Regards,
Mike

Subject: [TN] Singulation of Aluminum PCBs

Dear Technos,

We are quoting for several products using 0.063" thick Al PCBs, of
course with a thin FR4 topping.

Since they kinda need panelizing, what solutions can I use for
depanelizing?

Some are fit for V-grooving and some require routings.

Pressing with dies would be a solution, but I'm not very sure the
volumes will be there. Any other suggestions?

Also, what are the good panel design practices for this type of
application?

Thanks,

Ioan
