This seems to be the same sort of thing that Altium did to us recently
by joining Protel and PCAD and calling it Altium Designer.
Do we see a Cadence Designer coming along that incorporates features
from Board Station and Expedition?

Hi, here's my 2 cents worth.
Monopoly's are never a good thing , BUT, that being said, there could
be an advantage
to having everyone use the same tool to design instead of trying to
learn the ins and outs
of all the different EDA tools available ... anyone working in a service
bureau will
attest to that.
If Cadence does buy out Mentor, I guess I'll have another tool to learn
...;>)

I guess you have all heard that Cadence is offering to buy Mentor for
$16/share, about a 30% bump over current stock value and closely to the
past year's peak price (pcdandf.com/cms/content/view/4828/95/).
This would be a big deal in the IC design space, but it could really
have a huge
impact on PCB design.
What's your take on this? Would a Cadence-Mentor merger be good or bad
for
PCB designers?
