Whereas in theory the consequences of leaving saponifier residue behind are dire, in fact, the real issue resolves around HOW MUCH residue you are talking about.  This being because as the saponifier residues are exposed to air and metals, they are neutralized, and the amount of metal oxide generated is a tiny fraction of the amount of saponifier left behind.
 My suspicion is that given a reasonable DI water rinse, the amounts left on the board would be trivial, and whereas one can never be perfectly certain, in fact I suspect that the implications would not be noticeable.

I have the following question:  If a saponifier is used with a DI cleaning 
machine to clean PWAs and the cleaning does not remove all traces of the 
saponifier, is there any concern, including sugsequent exposure, to a humid 
environment?  Any technical reports on this subject?
