Vertrel was developed by DuPont as a "Green" replacement for cleaning solvent. We performed some tests on it and received very good results (compare to Abzol), and it is also been approved by some Aerospace companies.
It as Zero ozone depletion potential
Excellent toxicity profile
Design for electronics - high material compatibility

Combined ingredients in the can togther you have a non haz/non flammable mixture. the specific msds will comfirm that. The Nitromethane is probably the propellant media.
They are safe for electronics and have been in use for many years.
Are they effective cleaners on your assemblies should be the real question. They are very much a niche cleaner and efficacy against certain no clean formulas should be tested first.
For water soluble /OA fluxes DO NOT USE !! The results will be a horrible hard white residue mess.
Plastics such as acrylics and other polycarb blends used for switch covers etc. should be avoided.

Ioan,
What is the actual name of the product? I would expect the fluoronated materials to be global warmers and the methanol and nitromethane go boom around flame.

[TN] Are these substances OK for use in electronics
Dear Technos,
I've got one for the chemists: a customer of ours requests us to clean their boards with 2 spray canned products. Here's the stuff that's inside of them:
1,1,1,2,3,4,4,5,5,5-Decafluoropentane
Trans,1,2-Dichloroethylene
Methanol
Nitromethane
1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane
Are they safe for the product? What about the production personnel and the environment?
Thanks,
Ioan
