All,
Thanks for all the suggestions. We will definitely run some experiments.
I am glad I got some confirmation on my oxidation theory.
The traces on the side does not really follow what we observe on the
board. The cooling issue is something we have discussed as well. This is
a well established design that has not undergone any changes other that
moving the 0402 pads closer together. The caps were shifting on the
previous rev as well, but that was more due to that the pads were too
far apart and the pad on the components was not always 100% on the pad.
The shifting was straight and in the direction of one of the pads. We
have now solved this issue, but got the turning one instead. If this
was a cooling issue and/or a surface tension issue we would have had the
same issue of previous rev boards. The change is in this capacitor.
I will keep you posted.
