Hi Kenny!

Spent many days up there flying anti-submarine missions out of NAS
Whidbey back when I was a flight engineer in the Navy...a lot of Soviet
subs used to hang-out up at that part of the left coast.

Yeah, it's beautiful when it isn't raining. But you know what they say
about people from Washington state don't you? They don't tan, they
rust... ;^}

Hi Everybody,

I've been away from the TechNet for a while but it's good to be back.
I'm now working for a wonderful EMS on beautiful Whidbey Island,
Washington.

Carl, you hit on a subject that we are addressing right now. We use
metal wire mesh baskets to transport assemblies through our wash. We
experience damaged SMT parts from time to time such as chipped caps or
missing parts.
We believe that it is from the water pressure and air pressure bouncing
the boards around and banging them into the wire mesh.

We are evaluating several different ideas but haven't found the best fix
yet. I'll be interested to hear if other TechNetters have this problem
and if so how they've solved it.

Best regards,

KennyB

Does anyone out there have any information or data related to defect
rates for components after water wash processes? Some obvious components
such as switches, speakers and similar devices that are exposed to the
wash is a given to expect failures. The concern we have is with other
types of components.
