Make up a Pb-"Free" sign and everyone will rush to nature to get some.

Technetters,

Yes, Ben makes a good point. Here are the exceptions we rely on:

Lead in ceramics

Lead in glasses

Lead in glass frit

High lead die attaches

Lead in flip chip balls

Lead in steel for machining

Lead in aluminum for machining

Lead in copper for machining

In components, Pb is often the only material that falls under RoHS. So

yes, "Pb-Free" is often used in place of "RoHS compliant".

But the vendor on the site linked below states that the part is

"RoHS-compliant and lead-free" so it sound to me that he's just trying

to cover all bases - make it as clear as possible.

Also, keep in mind that there are exceptions in RoHS - a part does not

have to be Pb-Free to be RoHS compliant.

Thanks for your advice!

I have just searched some websites where give us the information is very

interesting as: Component Supplier determined that lead-free meet RoHS

compliant (see http://www.powerint.com/leadfree.htm#Q3 ) and leadfree is

often wrongly adopted ... (see

http://www.pb-free.info/faqs_difference_between_rohs_and_pbfree.htm)

How do you think about it?

Best regards,

What a technical and concise explanation and so esoteric in the defining

moments with "a melted pile of glop". The joys of being Canadian.

It was nice seeing you again at APEX.

Take care.

That's an easy one. Lead free has no lead and an RoHS compliant one has

no lead, cadmium, mercury, Cr(VI) or the two families of brominated fire

retardants - above the amounts set by the EU for each homogeneous

material that is mechanically separable. However, being lead free or

RoHS compliant does not mean that the component is lead free PROCESS

compliant! Many connectors have never had a stitch of lead in them, but

would be a melted pile of glop if you ran them through a reflow oven at

250C.

Dear All,

Could you tell me what the difference between Lead free component and

RoHS compliant component is? And can we use lead free component for RoHS

compliant products?

Pls give us your advice.

Thanks and best reagrds,
