Well, as a biologist by training, I noticed that many of Greenpeace
efforts were ecologically myopic. I could rarely support their "in your
face" actions and found many causes frivolous. Some of their causes have
a high "feel good" factor but tend to be low on critical thinking. At
the same time that does not mean I support wholesale whale hunting.

I have to be careful about throwing stones at Greenpeace as I could be
described as an international butterfly activist. I have been known to
exercise civil disobedience and even raise a Monarch Butterfly in
Ontario on occasion. Some the criticisms I level at Greenpeace could be
leveled at me by those with a different point of view. But that is a
story to be told over a beer, after an IPC meeting some time.

I, too, was surprised by Greenpeace. You do realise that this
organisation was one of the movers and shakers for lead-free, do you? I
have never supported any ecopolitical movement or lobbyist, but that may
be because I'm an environmentalist and I try to think things through
rather than condemn something because it has a dirty word associated
with it. I would say that charity begins at home: put it in a savings
account for an environmentally-friendly vehicle. THAT would do more good
than Greenpeace.
