In IPC classes it is stressed never to solder to both sides of a barrel, since 
one side is then capped off with no way for air to flow out, which can create 
a gap to entrap fluids.  I have been asked why soldering a resistor in a tip 
jack, such as cal parts, would be any different since there is no way for air to 
escape out the bottom of the tip jack.  Or soldering a wire into a cup terminal?
Can you answer this question for us.
