What corrosion? Internal (the solder joint itself) or external
(surrounding) ?
If the silver was free, I could think of migration, but the silver isn't
free.
Never heard of corrosion caused by silver content in the solder, at
least not for normal applications.

Subject: [TN] Sn62 solder; any negative experience using it???

April 8, 2008

Sn62 solder contains 2% silver. Have folks experienced any issues using
SnPb solder with this much silver? The historical QQ-S-571E solder spec
indicated that using Ag2.5 solder can result in corrosion issues in a
humid environment but I am not aware of any issues using Sn62 solder.
My understanding is that using 2% silver helps when soldering to ceramic
parts having palladium/silver finish.
