Dear Charles,
A few points may help you.
1) What did you observe in the line make you feel the grounding is no
good?
Strong e-filed? high failure rate in component?
2) " the conveyor belt itself is made of ESD material" <- What material
it is ? dissipative? or just low tribo-charge one?
If it is dissipative, how is the surface resistance? depends on the
surface resistance, you may need to add different points for grounding.
If it is a low tribo-charge material only, grounding may not be a
effective way.
3) Is it really caused by conveyor belt? is there any plastic component
inside you conveyor belt?
May be your belt itself does not generate charge, but the
tribo-charge accumulate in other part of the line.
4) What is put on / near the conveyor line? any adhesive tapes?
Try to remove them.
5) The last method is to use ionizer, this is not recommended since it
is hard to control and the maintenance cost is high.
unless you try all other way, this will surely the last choice.
