Hi Paul, 
Joint strength per se has very little to do with SJ reliability. If the lead 
foot is too short it will rock with cyclic thermal expansion mismatches and 
cause early failures [in this case toe fillets help some], as will inadequate 
heel fillets. side fillets have little effect. most important is good wetting.
