On thing I would note, is, if you look at the ST data sheet it show 1/2 circle notches in the part body and the corners of the heat-sink clipped off. This is true for the Morocco parts, but the China parts have no notches in part body and heat-sink corners are square.

I know what you mean, Jon.
It's annoying. This Darlington, when developing maximum dissipation, needs,
not only the stud, but also thick leads for cooling. The best you can find
today is probably Fairchild's version. Their leads are 0.5x08 mm in
crossection. The old ones from MOTA had double the size. Pioneer use very
robust TIPs 220, probably Japanese made, but I don't remember from whom.
This lowering of robustness and quality is what is called 'John Burke's
anatema'.

Hello Technetters
We use the ST microelectronics TIP-122 in the TO-220 package. We suddenly
started receiving a different variant of the TO-220 package, with very weak
and flimsy leads. Has anyone else encountered this? What if any standards
should these leads meet. Preliminary investigation show ST changed from a
mfg facility in Morocco to one in China.
