Ron Kaier gave a paper on the FTIR studies that led to the IPC TMs 2.3.38 &
2.3.39 at an IPC meeting in FL in the early '80s. Perhaps IPC still has it
available. He also trained people at Trace Labs to run FTIR residue analyses.
They should have the capability to run such residue analyses.

The beauty of capable FTIR equipment and operator is that the major
component trace in a residue mixture scan can be identified and subtracted, the
remaining scan enhanced, the next major component identified and subtracted, etc.
etc. until you know what is in the mixture.

Ron developed these methods to solve a complex residue problem that dropped
SIR values below the accepted limits at a major military contractor. The PWAs
were restored. See IPC-TP-383 by Lestra Wagner, given at the Dallas TX IPC
meeting in 1981.
