Hi Joe,

Just for your records, Jeol and Hitachi are selling an "ion mills" for
cross-sectioning. The machines are rather expensive, though in the range
of $60-90K but at least Hitachi said they'd think about it. I have a
couple of pictures somewhere of cross-sectioned joint (almost of a C4
size) and can share them if someone is interested.

I ran into this today and thought it might be of interest as an  
investigative tool. I sent the photo to Steve and hopefully he will find
time to  post it. 
I think it will be of interest to a number of folks here. 
 
It is a rapid focused ion beam milling tool that some folks in Oregon
have  
come up with. It appears that the tool is about 100x faster than current

methods. I think they plan to make some equipment but it looks like they
are 
providing services in the interim.
