And yet ANOTHER mistake. I have a typo, as Graham has kindly pointed out
to me off-line. I should have said 2.3.25.

Yikes! Ignore the acid-base adjective.

Graham,
1) IPC-TM-650, Method 2.3.35 is only an acid-base titration for halides.
2) It says nothing about sulfates, nitrates, methyl sulfonic acid,
carboxylic acids and other "stuff".
3) Ion chromatography is soooo much better.
4) The "ug NaCl/in2" value that is out there is for boards. There are
several values for halides (Foresite, Doug Pauls, Delco) but none that I
know of that are "official - yet.
5) And the value is an AVERAGE value across all components in the batch
tested (many if you are talking about 0201's!) and across the entire
surface wetted. It does not help much if you have localized dangerous
concentrations that get even out mathematically across the entire
surface area.

A component supplier you say? Ask for his IC data AND whether they
looked at any with SEM/EDX in specific locations.

Subject: [TN] cleanliness testing

Hello TechNet
I'm in a debate with a supplier about the incoming cleanliness of one of
their parts, they claim it's squeaky clean and I claim it's as salty as
a bag of salt & vinegar potato chips. Obviously we are both
exaggerating, but one of us has a good claim.

They are fending me off with resistivity measurements made per the
manual test method IPC-TM-650 2.3.25 - which works in that I don't know
how to convert it to the "ug NaCl/in2" equivalent units I'm used to. Is
there a valid conversion?

Sir Doug of Dew, if you reply please do NOT say it depends...

regards,
