Mike,
Yes, it was a good input, but don't let Bev's comments go to your head.
Remember he's Canadian. When they were working on the Blackberry, due to
the language barrier a request for an E-mail outlet/portal ended up
being a pop-up screen listing the local distributors of Canadian bacon.

Hi Bev
Thanks and
That's OK, you just confirmed what typical chauvinistic Brits already
know -
North Americans always claim things Brits already did!

However you may wish to reconsider: It is much more satisfying to say
"SOD
IT" when something breaks/goes wrong than "Murphy it" and as satisfying
but
less offensive than ....you're ahead of me.

:)

regards

Mike

Mike,
Best e-mail of the bunch, although as a typical North American
chauvinist, I
will continue to call it Murphy's Law.

I once bought a book of Murphy's Law in a book stall at a US airport.
Interestingly the copyright statement said that the book was not for
sale in
the US, thus demonstrating Murphy's Law.
It was also the second and revised edition. The first edition had a long
section detailing the research by the author of the derivation of
Murphy's
Law which he claimed to have traced back to a Boeing Engineer called
Murphy
in the 1930s.
This second edition contained an apology for this error.
The author explained this was because of the number of British readers
who
had written in saying that actually Murphy's Law was just a re-discovery
of
the original British "Sod's Law" to which the first written references
can
be traced back as far as the late 1700s. Thus demonstrating SOD's Law
very
well.

The book references many useful laws.
Examples
In the science section

Hot glass looks the same as cold glass

And motoring
2 cars travelling on an otherwise deserted road will
a) be travelling in opposite directions
b) Meet at the narrowest point.

I no longer have this book because by Sod's/Murphy's Law I lent it to
someone who immediately emigrated.

Regards

Mike

Since you two were basking in the delusional euphoria that everyone
understands the ramifications of proper reflow profiles, I thought I'd
pass
along the laws that seemingly stipulate the opposite.

MURPHY'S OTHER LAWS.....

1. Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear

bright until you hear them speak.

2. He who laughs last, thinks slowest.

3. A day without sunshine is like, well, night.

4. Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

5. Those who live by the sword get shot by those who don't.

6. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

7. The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting

something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

8. It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end to end,

someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them.

9. If the shoe fits, get another one just like it.

10. The things that come to those that wait may be the things left by

Those who got there first.

11. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish

and he will sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

13. The shin bone is a device for finding furniture.

14. A fine is a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well.
