Brian (and anyone else visiting the desert),

NEVER underestimate the power of flash flood. It's difficult to judge the
depth and fatalities are common! I personally watched a wall of water &
debris approx. 10-12 ft high come rushing down a canyon that my Cub Scout
Pack was exploring only an hour before (thanks to a park ranger for pointing
out the potential danger).

Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the
earth's surface relative to other matter; second, telling other people to do
so.

Subject: Re: Solderability of Tin-Gold Intermetallic NTC

I had a Scotsman's "California moment". In April 1995, my wife and I were
doing some tourism. We reached Death Valley and started to explore it, by
car. Morning and early afternoon of one day we saw a lot, beautiful weather,
albeit slightly cooler than we expected. About 1400 h, we went up to see the
volcanic crater somewhere near the northern end. It suddenly clouded over
and, believe it or not, started to snow and, when I mean snow, it snowed
hard. Visibility was down to a few metres. And it was settling. We gingerly
made our way back down and after a couple of km, we were back down into
sheeting rain. Had to cross a couple of fairly minor flash floods before we
were back down into the valley. We then went to our motel at Stovepipe
Wells, passing the Devil's Cornfield, in beautiful sunshine, again.

Not the weather we expected in Death Valley!!!
