An Englishmans "California moments".

So in 2001 I was living in Corona out in the desert near LA. In January of
that year I jumped in the car - started the engine, turned on the wipers to
clear the condensation and found that the windshield wiper motor had packed
up.

I went back into the house and told my wife who had been living for years in
Colorado, who burst out laughing and suggested I get a can of de-icer, or
use some water to melt the ice that had frozen them to the
windshield.....................

In February that year I was doing some work on anisotropic adhesive bonding
and recounted this tale to the 3M rep who was helping me with the project.
He laughed and said "If you think that's funny, I have a garage full of 3M
seasonal marketing giveaways that I can't even give away in California - 20
boxes of Windshield Ice scrapers with the 3M logo on
them.......................

Have a great weekend everyone.....8-)

Re: [TN] Solderability of Tin-Gold Intermetallic NTC

Now Genny, we mustn't exaggerate. It is only -23.5C most of the time and
we get 7 hours every other Wednesday.

Seriously most of southern Ontario is at the same latitude as southern
Oregon/northern California and although it is not as warm as those
states, it is certainly comparable to a lot of the New England, Mid
Atlantic and Midwestern lake states.

However, I lived two years in Edmonton, Alberta (1980-82, the most
northernly, large city (>1M) in North America) and in the winter of
81-82 we had six weeks when the highest it got was -25C and it was -45C
at night (excluding wind chill). On top of that this post doc had no
car, my wife and I had two little kids and there was a bus strike at the
same time. Getting groceries was "interesting". Oh, and the sun came up
after 9 AM and set by about 4 PM. Yuck. I did like the sunny, open
skies and the stuff you hear about a dry cold compared to -4C in Seattle
or Vancouver, British Columbia is actually true.

!!! Shhhhh don't give away our secrets.
How else do you think we deal with months of -25C or colder weather and
only 6 hours of sunlight a day...
